Traineeships are structured training programs that enable young people to gain a qualification through employment. They provide individuals with practical work experience while receiving on and off-the-job training.

AFL SportsReady recruits individuals aged 16-24, including school students, recent school leavers, and adults returning to work, matching them with our host employers. As the legal employer, AFL SportsReady manages, educates, and supports trainees while they gain valuable experience with host employers.

Our traineeship model is a three-way partnership between:

  • AFL SportsReady
  • Young jobseekers/entry-level employees
  • Employers

We support both the entry-level employee and employer every step of the way, ensuring a mutually beneficial experience.

The most successful traineeships result from engaged host employers and supervisors who support their trainee’s development. We believe it is essential for host employers to take time to understand their Trainee and how they learn, which helps get the most out of the experience.

As a host employer, you have a few essential responsibilities:

    • Provide a safe working environment
    • Provide meaningful work for your trainee to complete
    • Provide adequate supervision and guidance
    • Sign the fortnightly timesheets prepared by your trainee
    • Help develop and support your trainee throughout their traineeship
    • Support the trainee’s formal education
  • plus Created with Sketch. minus Created with Sketch. What is the cost?

Costs vary on when the Trainee completed high school and their qualification. For a recent school leaver, you can expect to pay per hour for the Trainee.

Costs include salary, superannuation, education fees, WorkCover and our support staff.

Host employers also receive incentive payments during the traineeship.
