    Trainees are paid at the National Training Wage Award which takes into consideration the following.

    • Highest level of schooling completed
    • Any pre-existing qualifications

    This depends on the traineeship you choose to undertake. For example, if your traineeship was an administration role you would complete a Business qualification whereas if you were doing a Physical Education assistant role you would complete a Sport and Recreation certificate.

    If you are the current holder of a Health Care Card the course will be covered by AFL SportsReady. If you do not hold a current Health Care Card you will be required to apply for one as the cost of the course may not be covered by AFL SportsReady.

    All trainees are assigned a Field Officer and Educator to support you throughout your traineeship. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander trainees also receive the support of an First Nations Mentor.

    There is no age limit for traineeships. However, the average age of our trainees is between 16-25 years old. AFL SportsReady encourages anyone interested in undertaking a traineeship to contact us for more information.

    The duration of a traineeship will depend on the qualification, but can include the following:

    • Full-Time up to 1 year (38 hours per week) – Certificate III or Certificate IV level
    • Part-Time up to 2 years (minimum 15 hours per week) Certificate III or Certificate IV
    • School-Based 2 years (completed over years 11 & 12) – Certificate II or III

    AFL SportsReady does not guarantee you a job on completion of your traineeship, however, we will work closely with you in the last 3 months of your model to discuss post traineeship transition.

    AFL SportsReady is your legal employer, and you will be ‘hosted’ by one of our partner organisations to work for them. Here are just a few of the organisations we have worked with over the years. AFL Clubs, AFL NSW/ACT, AFL Queensland, ANZ, Commonwealth Bank, City of Sydney, The Comedy Festival, Big Ant Studios, The Queensland Ballet, Burson Auto Parts, Belgravia Leisure, Golf Clubs, Schools and more.

    Yes, in some instances you can. This is subject to ‘Host Employer’ approval and is determined on a case by case basis.

    Generally however, government funding is not available for people that have already obtained a Certificate IV, Diploma or Bachelor level qualification.

    • A school based traineeship is a one day per week work placement completed whilst in year
      11 and 12 with a Host Employer.
    • A Traineeship is either a full time or part time traineeship completed over 11 to 24 months
    • An apprenticeship is generally completed over a 4 year duration.

    AFL SportsReady remains your trainee’s legal employer, however the trainee will be “hosted” at your place of business and will work for you. There is also an option for you to directly employ the trainee and have AFL SportsReady deliver the education component of the traineeship.

    Costs vary on when the trainee completed high school and their qualification. For a recent school leaver, you can expect to pay $21 per hour for the trainee. This cost includes salary, superannuation, education fees, WorkCover and our support staff.

    As the legal employer, AFL SportsReady takes care of all administrative matters including payroll, superannuation, WorkCover and the arrangement of the educational components of the traineeship as well as recruitment.

    Host Employers may be eligible to receive incentive payments after the 6 month and 12 month points of the traineeship depending on eligibility criteria being met. For Full time trainees the total payment is $3,500, and for School Based/Part time trainees, the total amount is $1,750.

    AFL SportsReady will consult directly with you on your business needs and the qualities you are seeking in a trainee. We will then shortlist applicants based on the identified criteria and present these to you for your consideration and your final decision. You have the final say in who gets the job.

    We have many years of experience in recruiting trainees and apprentices and through a combination of our extensive industry networks and general advertising; we can find the right person for the job. Of course, the final decision is yours; however, we can help point you in the right direction.

    AFL SportsReady will work with both you and the trainee to resolve any issues or problems as they arise during the traineeship.

    A trainee will be kept with the same Host Employer for the duration of the traineeship unless otherwise requested by the Host Employer or the trainee.

    The Host Employer must provide the trainee with a safe workplace and adequate instruction and supervision. All trainees are inducted into Occupational Health and Safety and the Host Employer is required to be compliant with our WH&S standards.

    Course fees are different in different States and Territories due to the different government funding subsidy’s that we are entitled to. As a result our fees reflect the separate requirements for each state and this determines how much we charge for our courses.

  • plus Created with Sketch. minus Created with Sketch. How do I apply for Credit Transfer (CT) or Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for study previously completed?

    To apply for either RPL or CT you must obtain the relevant forms from your educator and provide certified copies of certificates and other evidence you wish to submit for processing. Please speak to your educator as soon as possible to ensure your enrolment is accurate to your training plan.

    Trainee – If a trainee wishes to withdraw from a qualification, the Field Officer, Educator and Employer/Host Employer must be notified. Please note the qualification is a requirement of a traineeship. Therefore further discussions with Field Officer, Educator and Employer/Host Employer will be required.

    Students – If a student wishes to withdraw from a qualification, the student must notify their educator in writing and the student administration team via email at: [email protected]

    Refund policies are provided to each student at enrolment and are available in the Fee Structure section for each state on this website. Refund policies are different in each state based on company policy and/or Government requirements. Refunds will only be given in accordance with the relevant policy.

    Notify the Student administration team via email, [email protected] or your allocated educator via email of any updated personal information as it is a requirement that all data is accurate and current. Please note; if personal information is not accurate and current, important information and/or documentation may not be received.

    You have the right to appeal an assessment result you believe to be unfair, incorrect or inappropriate.

    All complaints and appeals will be dealt with in a constructive and timely manner. Client Complaint and Appeals Forms record details of complaints or appeals.

    SportsReady Education supports all participants, including employers, to lodge a complaint or appeal as deemed appropriate.  We are committed to providing an effective and fair process to resolve matters through appropriate resolution processes as described in our Grievance and Complaint Policy available here.
