We’ve been so impressed by the outstanding nominations received for this year’s AFL SportsReady Awards. It’s been inspiring to see the hard work, growth and dedication shown by trainees, apprentices and cadets across Australia.

2026 AFL SportsReady Trainee or Apprentice of the Year Award
Matilda Morrison (Finalist)
“Matilda makes significant contributions to both the culture and the operational effectiveness of the Post Award team and the Programs Branch. She coordinates work tasks seamlessly, supports colleagues by identifying issues early and consistently takes on urgent requests with calm efficiency. Her adaptability, responsiveness and sense of humour have made her a valued and trusted colleague.”
Lachlan King (Finalist)
“Lachlan has made a profound and positive impact on our workplace. His vibrant energy, approachable nature and infectious enthusiasm uplift both staff and students daily. His strong rapport with students enhances engagement and participation. Lachlan has become an invaluable member of our team – a role model for students, a trusted colleague for staff and a driving force behind many of our school’s sporting successes this year.”
2026 Warumilang Trainee of the Year Award
Kathleen Laidlaw (Finalist)
“In a community-facing arts environment, every interaction matters – and Kathleen approaches each one with empathy, respect, and genuine interest. She builds relationships thoughtfully, supports vulnerable participants with sensitivity, and plays an important role in creating a welcoming space for people of all ages and backgrounds.”
Shanae Goss (Finalist)
“Shanae actively seeks opportunities for self-improvement, professional development, upholds professional conduct with integrity and a strong work ethic, and consistently exhibits enthusiasm and motivation. Her remarkable attributes make her a standout member of the First Peoples team and a valuable asset.”
2026 The Ready Foundation Growth Award
Margaret Hall (Finalist)
“Margie never shirked taking on new work or projects and always applied her own flavour and opinions to all this work. She had suggestions to enhance our work particularly in design and presentation. Margie fitted right in with her high degree of professionalism and maturity beyond her years. Her work rate is phenomenal and sometimes we could not keep up with her.”
Jakob Stappenbelt (Finalist)
