Earn & Learn Program 2026

Looking to start a career in education while earning a wage? The Aspiring Koorie Teachers (AKT) Program offers a unique opportunity to study, work and be mentored in the education sector.

What You’ll Gain:

✔ Earn – Work two days a week in a partnered school
✔ Learn – Study 3 days a week online Certificate IV in School-Based Education Support (CHC40221) with Holmesglen. 
✔ Be Mentored – Receive guidance and support from experienced educators

Program Details:

This AKT Now Program is only available in Victoria.

Employment Structure: Work 2 days a week as an education support officer in a Victorian government school, earning an annual salary of up to $43,600 for 12 months. Employment will increase to 5 days per week upon successful completion of the 6 month course.

Course Structure: Study online 3 days a week for 6 months, to complete the Certificate IV in School-Based Education Support.

Cost: Fully funded through Skills First – No fees for participants

Eligibility

To be eligible you must:

  • Be willing to apply for positions as required to secure employment at one of the partnering schools
  • Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • Be a Victorian resident, or reside in a cross-border community
  • Hold or be willing to obtain a Working with Children Check and Police Check
  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have an interest in the education/teaching sector
  • Provide a resume so we have the necessary information on file
  • Be willing to undergo merit-based recruitment processes for fixed-term employment with Victorian government schools
  • Access to a laptop and/or computer for the purposes of completing your study online
  • Adequate digital skills for the purposes of completing your study online
  • Complete a pre-training review
  • Access to high-speed internet for the purposes of completing your study online
