Statement of Commitment to Child Safety and Wellbeing

All children have a right to feel and be safe. AFL SportsReady is committed to the safety and well-being of all children and young people receiving education, employment and support services from AFL SportsReady and their welfare will always be our first priority.

We aim to create a child safe and child friendly environment where all children are valued and feel safe and supported as they undertake a program with AFL SportsReady and ensure that participants who are placed with Host Employers also receive such an environment.

All children and young people, regardless of their gender, race, religious beliefs, age, disability, sexual orientation, or family or social background, have equal rights to protection from harm and abuse.

AFL SportsReady has a zero-tolerance approach towards harm to children, and all allegations and safety concerns will be treated very seriously and consistently with our Child Safe policies and procedures.

We recognise our legal and moral obligations to contact authorities when we are worried about a child’s safety and will do so in every event.

We are committed to preventing child harm, identifying risks early and removing and reducing these risks. To this end, we have robust recruitment processes for our team members, and we provide regular training and education on child harm and risk of harm.

We are committed to the cultural safety of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, the cultural safety of children from a culturally and/or linguistically diverse backgrounds, and to providing a safe environment for children with a disability. We will encourage Indigenous children, and children from culturally diverse and linguistically backgrounds to express their culture and enjoy their cultural rights. We will encourage the families of these children to be involved with AFL SportsReady.

AFL SportsReady has specific policies, procedures and training in place that support our team members to achieve our commitment.
