Delivered over two years by Sportsready Education (RTO ID: 22394), our Certificate III gives you access to industry knowledge, exciting excursions and inspiring guest speakers who know what it takes to succeed.     Help your Year 11 and 12 students dive into a career in Sport, Aquatics & Recreation with an engaging, industry-connected VET course. AFL SportsReady is offering a two-year VDSS program leading to a nationally recognised Certificate III in Sport, Aquatics and Recreation (SIS30122) designed to build skills, confidence and real-world experience.

    Applications open August 2025 | Course starts February 2026

    Open to secondary students in Victoria, this program is the perfect fit for those passionate about sport, health, and active careers.

    Applications must be submitted by the Career Practitioner on behalf of the student, in consultation with the school’s VET Coordinator where applicable.

    Our campus is located at the former Collingwood Football Club home ground AFL SportsReady, Level 2 Bob Rose Stand, Victoria Park Corner Lulie & Abbott Streets Abbotsford VIC 3067.

    SportsReady Education delivers most of its Sport, Aquatics and Recreation classes from inside the Bob Rose Stand, overlooking Victoria Park. The space features lecture theatre-style seating for around 48 students with a large screen for visual presentations. It’s a unique and inspiring environment, offering an experience outside the traditional classroom. Throughout the course, students also take part in excursions and have opportunities to learn in real-world, off-site settings.

    What is VDSS?

    VDSS stands for vocational education and training delivered to school students where secondary school students can study and gain practical skills in various industry areas. Students may achieve a nationally recognised qualification or partial qualification at the Certificate II and/or Certificate III level while completing their secondary school studies.

    VET studies contribute to the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), the Victorian Certificate of Education Vocational Major (VCE VM) and Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC).

    How do I apply?

    Please speak to your school VET Coordinator or Careers Adviser to discuss the VDSS program on offer. They will then make an application on your behalf.

    Once your application has been accepted, you will be sent an email with an online enrolment form to be completed and submitted.

    In December you will receive further information regarding your start date and where to go on your first day.

    What contribution does this VDSS program make to my VCE or VCE VM?

    Please discuss this with your school VET Coordinator or Careers Adviser.

    When do classes start in 2026?

    The first day of class will be Wednesday 4th February 2026.

    When do I attend?

    Classes are held weekly over two years on a Wednesday from 1:00pm to 4:30pm during the school term. Students are not required to attend during the term break unless advised otherwise.

    Where are the classes held?

    Our campus is located at the former Collingwood Football Club home ground, AFL SportsReady Level 2 Bob Rose Stand, Victoria Park Corner Lulie & Abbott Streets Abbotsford VIC 3067.

    Occasionally classes will be online, and you will be advised by your trainer.

    What are the course fees?

    All fees for this VDSS program are invoiced to your school. Please speak to your school regarding any payment that you may be required to make.

    Will there be an orientation/information session to provide more information?

    Yes, an online information session will be held proir to the course starting. We will notify you via email with the day/time.

    What do I wear to class?

    You will be advised if there are any specific uniform requirements when you attend your first day of class. Students may wear their school uniform or suitable clothing and footwear to class.

    What should I do if I wish to withdraw from my course?

    Please speak to your school VET coordinator who will advise us if you should be withdrawn from your course.

    VET Delivered to Secondary Students (VDSS)
    VDSS integrates vocational education into the senior secondary school curriculum. Students develop practical skills that align with their career goals. These courses are recognised as subjects in VCE and VCE VM, contributing to the ATAR and providing pathways from Certificate III to bachelor’s degrees. This program ensures flexibility and relevance in education, preparing students for future success.

    School-Based Apprenticeships & Traineeships (SBATs)
    SBATs combine secondary education with hands-on work experience. Students spend at least one day per week in the workplace, gaining real-world experience and earning a wage. This program offers a nationally recognised qualification that counts towards VCE, VCE VM or the Victorian Pathways Certificate. SBATs blend academic learning and practical training, ensuring students are well-prepared for the workforce.

    Post-School Traineeships
    For students who have completed secondary school, our post-school traineeships offer full-time work combined with study in various roles. Trainees gain practical experience and formal qualifications, supported by dedicated mentors. This ensures a smooth transition from education to meaningful employment, helping students build a solid foundation for their careers. You can learn more about traineeships here

They provide career development insights within the AFL industry, delivered by seasoned professionals, and offer valuable networking opportunities.
