Official Launch of our Innovate RAP 2023-25

This marked a significant milestone in our organisation’s ongoing commitment to strengthening its relationship with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and stakeholders in the spirit of reconciliation.

The occasion brought together members of the team from across the nation, symbolising the collective dedication and enthusiasm behind this initiative. The RAP is a carefully crafted document, outlining AFL SportsReady’s vision for reconciliation and a set of clear, actionable steps to realise this vision.

Credit goes to the passionate RAP Working Group, who volunteered their time and expertise to create an impactful plan for the organisation. This collaborative effort is a testament to AFL SportsReady’s commitment to fostering positive change.

The event began with a warm Welcome to Country delivered by Chenile Chandler, a proud Wurundjeri-Woiwurrung woman and AFL SportsReady’s Recruitment Coordinator.

Our two RAP Working Group Co-Chairs took on the respective roles of MC and hosted a Q&A and panel discussion.

Kylie Penehoe, a proud Wonnarua and Wiradjuri woman and AFL SportsReady’s Executive Manager of First Nations Programs. Lent her MC skills and expertise to ensure the event’s success.

Tracey Parry, Tasmanian State Manager, engaged with guests including the talented Mali Isabel, an Arabana and Kokatha artist. Mali’s work took centre stage at the RAP Launch, showcasing the significance of art and culture in efforts of reconciliation.

Another event highlight was a panel discussion with AFLSR First Nations Mentors, Anzac Leidig and John Hollows. Their discussion demonstrated the vital role of mentorship and guidance in achieving the objectives outlined in the Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).

This event emphasised the significance of cultural recognition, mentorship, and collaboration as essential components in working towards the RAP’s goals. These elements play a crucial role in fostering reconciliation and promoting diversity and inclusion within workplaces and communities.
