Salesian College Sunbury is a co-educational school providing quality education in a community of faith.

The Grounds Apprentice works as an active member of the Grounds Team under the supervision of the Grounds Team Leader. The Apprentice assists in maintaining, developing and improving the College’s gardens, sporting grounds and other facilities. The grounds must provide a safe environment for students, staff, parents and visitors, with upkeep carried out to ensure compliance with relevant Occupational Health & Safety legislation.

Key Responsibilities: The role covers the maintenance of grassed and turfed areas, along with gardens, through mowing, pruning, edging, irrigation, fertilising, chemical spraying, renovation and mulching. The Grounds Apprentice also assists with cleaning paths, roadways, gutters, drains, buildings and synthetic sport surfaces, while helping to clear debris such as branches or litter. Additional responsibilities include supporting the planning, design, construction and maintenance of landscaping projects. Ensuring automatic sprinkler systems are correctly programmed and contributing to the general upkeep of ovals, gardens, the pool area and roadways.

This is an opportunity to gain practical experience while developing skills in grounds and garden maintenance within a school environment. The role requires safe effective use of garden machinery, a proactive approach to maintaining facilities and a willingness to contribute to a wide range of tasks across the grounds. The Apprentice is expected to actively support the school’s ethos with a willingness to assist others and an enthusiastic attitude. A commitment to contributing to a positive and supportive school environment is essential. Candidates are encouraged to clearly outline their skills, experience and suitability for this Traineeship in their application.

National Training Wage from: $28,000 – $45,000, plus 12% Superannuation
