Callie Walker takes home Rising Star Award

Newman local, Callie Walker left audiences feeling inspired after receiving the 2015 Hostplus Rising Star Award for WA at their graduation. The award is presented to the trainee who has demonstrated the greatest level of growth and ability throughout the year both professionally and personally. It is named after Hostplus, an award winning industry superannuation fund, for those who live and love hospitality, tourism and recreation. They are also our major partner for the graduation ceremonies with this year marking our strong 10 year partnership.

Callie completed her traineeship with the V Swans program which is a part of the Swans District Football Club as well as studying a Certificate II in Sport and Recreation. She was commended by her supervisor Chelsea Randall for her outstanding commitment and enthusiastic attitude that motivated her students and colleagues every day.

‘Callie is a driven, mature and enthusiastic member of the V-Swans team, where she consistently used her initiative to great effect and positively influence her students,’ said Ms Randall.

‘V Swans has benefitted from hosting Callie, as she was a vital and valuable asset to the Kicking and Shooting Goals program. The 180 students involved in the program, all look up to Callie and she presents as an excellent role model. The impact and way she communicates with young people has been incredible,’ she continued.

On receiving her award, Callie thanked her host and supervisor and praised her traineeship for giving her the direction she needed.

‘I want to thank my supervisor Chelsea who really guided me throughout my traineeship. I suffered from anxiety last year so doing this traineeship really helped me to be confident, to give me the ability to speak my mind and to go for my dreams,’ said Callie.

‘I also want to thank the V Swans, who have a really great and inspiring support system and without them I wouldn’t have this opportunity or be where I am today.’

Callie will be continuing on at the V Swans in a mentor role.
