Get a boot in the door at the AFL

21 year old Jeremy Hannan never imagined he would be working at AFL House. Now, thanks to his traineeship his dream job has become a reality.

‘For someone who loves football as much as I do, working right in the hub of the game is probably the best thing that could ever happen,’ he smiled.

After finishing school in 2013 Jeremy went straight into university to study Real Estate Management but his real passion was in footy. So he searched for an answer where he could both study and work and found it when he came across AFL SportsReady’ s Facebook page.

‘I love my university course but I also love AFL and that was the industry I saw myself working in. When I came across the opportunity at AFL SportsReady I applied straight away knowing it was my chance to get my foot in the door,’ Jeremy explained.

As part of his traineeship, Jeremy is also completing a Certificate III in Business. Jeremy says the qualification is a bonus and will help him if he decides to finish his university course.

‘I honestly thought getting into the AFL industry would be really difficult especially for a young person with no experience. With opportunities like this traineeship, young kids have the chance to make it in some of Australia’s most demanding industries.’

‘I get to learn how the AFL is run and learn about the business first hand. The people here are really supportive and willing to always help me, answering my questions and assisting me in my role. The contacts and networks I have made during my traineeship will also help me to work my way up in the industry,’ Jeremy added.

‘I couldn’t imagine why people wouldn’t want to do a traineeship. It’s not every day you come across an opportunity that can launch your career in the AFL.’
