Creating Engaging Learning Experiences
At AFL SportsReady, Kylie Spragg brings passion and purpose to her dual role as Educator and Instructional Designer, two hats she wears proudly. With nearly six years of experience supporting Certificate III and IV in Business trainees, she spends her days full of connection, creativity and care. As an educator, Kylie focuses on creating engaging learning experiences and strong support systems for her students.

My day can include many moving parts of delivering education that can be onboarding new students meeting with them and their host supervisors to set the foundation for a successful learning journey.
She works closely with employment coaches and First Nations mentors to ensure every trainee feels supported. Flexibility and empathy are central to her approach, whether she’s adapting delivery methods to suit individual needs or providing feedback that helps trainees grow in confidence.
Stepping into the role of Instructional Designer this year has opened new opportunities for Kylie to shape meaningful and compliant learning materials.
I’m passionate about creating learning experiences that are not only compliant with ASQA standards. But also meaningful and relevant to trainees’ current and future roles.
What motivates Kylie most is seeing young people discover their potential. Over her 15 years as an educator, Kylie has witnessed countless transformations.
One of the most rewarding parts of my work is watching a young person who doubted themselves begin to realise what they’re capable of. That moment when they shift from uncertainty to confidence is incredibly powerful. Some trainees struggle when they first start and can be unsure of themselves or the process. But when they persist, find their motivation and finally complete their qualification. The pride they feel is incredible and I get to witness that transformation.
That’s when I think, this is why I do what I do.

Kylie believes growth extends beyond academics. By building authentic relationships, she helps trainees develop the interpersonal skills that foster empathy, confidence and leadership.
One of my strengths as an educator is taking the time to get to know my trainees as people first, before seeing them as students.
From self-paced pre-work to interactive workshops and tailored support sessions. Kylie supports trainees in balancing full-time work and study.
I focus on building time management skills early on,
helping trainees break tasks into manageable steps and plan their weeks realistically.
Creating safe spaces for open communication and connection helps trainees build resilience and self-advocacy skills that serve them well beyond their studies.

Reflecting on her proudest achievements, Kylie highlights her students’ perseverance, particularly during the pandemic.
Delivering energetic and engaging online training especially during COVID wasn’t easy, but seeing trainees push through and thrive made it all worthwhile.
In the future,
Kylie is determined to continue developing resources that help young people build their confidence.
My goal is to spark curiosity and help trainees see learning as a tool for growth not just in their current role, but throughout their careers.
