Trainee Experiences Finals Footy!
Melbourne hosts Brisbane in a must win final tonight and for one lucky trainee she can barely contain her excitement.
Emily Noble, Membership trainee at Brisbane Lions Football Club is still pinching herself that she gets to work for a Club that’s playing finals footy.
“It really feels like a dream! Not only working for an AFL club but one that is a part of the finals. It’s like nothing I have ever experienced before. There is a buzz around the office and everyone is full of energy and excitement. Words don’t do this feeling justice,” Emily exclaimed.
Emily is a mad footy fan and has played the sport her whole life. Her ultimate dream has been to work at the AFL and through a traineeship her dream became a reality.
“I took on the traineeship because I want a career in footy and this opportunity could give me that. The traineeship gives you this massive foot in the door of an industry that is incredibly popular. I mean, so many people want to work in the AFL or at a club so a traineeship literally opens that door for you and who knows where you can go from there,” she said.
Emily is studying a Certificate III in Business and works in the membership department at the club. Since finals, her role has become extremely busy as she deals with members all day every day.
“I basically help our members by tickets and so I get to speak with them all day. I love it because every day is different and it is rewarding to support so many people. It’s really busy but it’s so much fun!”
If Brisbane Lions win the match tonight, Emily will most likely be heading down to Melbourne to attend the Grand Final.
“We are super excited but also very nervous. Next week we could be celebrating, or we could be crying. Who knows! But just the thought of going to the Grand Final and seeing our team hold the cup would be incredible.
If we don’t win, the experience I have had has been phenomenal and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.”
Emily’s advice to someone thinking of taking a traineeship is “Go for it! Do it! I am living my dream and working for a footy club in the finals. I wouldn’t have had this opportunity without the traineeship. It’s a solid pathway into the career of your dreams and honestly, it’s been one of the best years of my life.”
This article is part of a series in partnership with the National Careers Institute to highlight the real stories of young people who chose a Traineeship in the AFL industry as their career pathway.
