Sherrin and the AFL join forces for {break} 2015 Indigenous round

For this year’s Toyota AFL Indigenous Round, Sherrin and Virgin Australia have teamed up with the AFL to create an exhibition that will be displayed in the Virgin Australia Lounge at Melbourne Airport.

18 unique footballs have been hand painted by Indigenous artists and put on display to be auctioned online in support of AFL SportsReady.

Every ball is one of a kind and has its own unique touches making these footballs a once only purchase opportunity whilst giving consumers the chance to support a fantastic cause. All artwork has been inspired by the history and background of each specific club. The auction is currently live at the ShopAFL website: www.shop.afl.com.au/auctions/ and will end on Friday June 5th.

Sherrin is proud to play such an important role in Indigenous Round and are incredibly respectful of the Indigenous history and culture within our great game, and recognise the profound impact the Indigenous community has had over the years.

Along with the 18 one-off footballs, Sherrin is also introducing a new Indigenous Game ball for 2015 that will be played with in all games across Indigenous Round this year. The ball was designed by Marcus Lee and symbolises the celebration of all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander AFL Players. The image of the lizard man and emu stencils are inspired from the Rock Art shelters in the Gariwerd Ranges (Grampians), in Western Victoria – or Tjap Whurrong country. The lizard men depict groups of men outstretched, emphasizing the high marking which is a unique feature of both Marngrook and the modern game. The feet-like tree roots of the lizard men represent the strong links to country and the traditional game of Marngrook.

Sherrin is excited to announce 10% of Indigenous game ball sales will be donated to support the employment of Indigenous trainees via AFL SportsReady. The Indigenous game ball is available to purchase at www.sherrin.com.au.
