DYLAN HARVEY
AFL Victoria

Dylan Harvey a proud Gunditjmara man, is a part of the Barrawarn program. A program delivered by AFL SportsReady in partnership with the Collingwood Football Club Foundation. This three year initiative provides young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with education and employment opportunities in metropolitan and regional Victoria. With his love of all sports and the AFL industry, Dylan is paving out a career in sport thanks to his traineeship with AFL Victoria.

Being only a quarter of the way through his traineeship Dylan has received invaluable experience with the help of his supervisor and AFL Victoria Indigenous Program Manager, Aaron Clark. Together they managed the annual Indigenous under 15 Kickstart state squad making it to the National Diversity Championships in Cairns earlier this year and are currently running the Laguntus Indigenous boys squad.

Dylan praises the support he receives from Aaron and his AFL SportsReady Indigenous Mentor who have both provided him with career direction and guidance throughout his year. Apart from his advisors his favourite part about doing the traineeship is studying while getting on the job experience. He believes this experience combining work with study is what will help him succeed in his future endeavours in the sporting industry.

His advice to young Australians thinking about pursing a traineeship is “Get up and do it! From the coursework to the practical experience it’s a great way to jump into a career!”
