The Administration / Lab Operations Trainee at Bedford Park will participate in a comprehensive traineeship program focused on developing skills in essential workplace safety and administrative coordination of documentation. On-the-job training will extend to a research and teaching laboratory environment, including a six-week elective in a specialised area of medical research chosen by the Trainee. Elective areas may include Microscopy, mounting slides and capturing digital images, Animal Husbandry, Microbiology or Molecular Biology. The Trainee will report directly to Professor Jill Carr within the Molecular Biosciences theme at the Flinders Health and Medical Research Institute (FHMRI) and will receive day-to-day supervision from relevant staff and mentors across various laboratory contexts.
Key Responsibilities: The Trainee will assist with laboratory research by washing, sterilising and cleaning lab consumables and equipment, maintaining thorough records of compliance, work performed and study results and helping organise laboratory meetings and schedules. The role also includes supporting University teaching by assisting in the creation of presentation materials, setting up practical classes and managing meeting logistics for the College’s Green Team. Additionally, the Trainee will contribute to maintaining a safe, ethical and compliant working environment by adhering to guidelines for human and animal ethics, privacy, intellectual property, work health and safety and confidentiality, participating in ethics and biosafety training, and engaging in performance assessments.
This position provides an invaluable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in both administrative and laboratory operations within a research and teaching setting. The Trainee will work under the supervision of experienced staff, gaining exposure across multiple laboratory environments and practical research applications. Completion of the traineeship will equip the Trainee with a solid foundation for future career opportunities in the health and medical research fields.
