AFL Media Superstar in the Making

AFL Media Superstar in the Making

Emily Sutherland, a driven and passionate individual, started her journey through a traineeship as a Young Leader with AFL North Coast NSW. Her experience solidified her business skills and set her on a dream path towards a promising future.

Emily’s story highlights the AFL SportsReady traineeship program’s benefits in fostering personal and professional growth.

Her ability to seamlessly integrate into the workplace and excel in her role proves the value of hands-on experience and formal education.

My experience as a Trainee has been fairly smooth. I settled into the workplace at AFL North Coast NSW and enjoyed my role working with kids as well as working behind the computer.

Throughout her traineeship, Emily received support from her supervisor, field officer and educator, which played a crucial role in her achievements.
This support network provided guidance and confidence in her abilities, paving the way for her to excel and receive recognition through a Trainee Award.

I was very surprised to receive a Trainee award.

But I’m feeling very grateful for the opportunity and the doors it will open throughout my career.

Looking forward, Emily’s decision to further her education with a degree in Media and Communication at university.

After completing my Cert IV in Business, I am heading to university to begin a degree in Media and Communication.

Her experience has equipped her with essential skills and insights, preparing her for future challenges and opportunities on and off the field.

My support networks have been hugely helpful throughout my traineeship.

They have provided advice, support, and guidance. I believe this support has contributed to my success in the role and in receiving the Trainee award.

Emily’s success story is an inspiring example for young individuals considering traineeships as a viable career option. It highlights how programs provide practical skills and knowledge and open doors to exciting career pathways.

From my first day on the job to winning a Trainee award,

I have matured, increased my confidence, and recognised the value of education post-secondary school.

Emily’s journey is a top example of how traineeships can empower young individuals to turn their passions into careers.
Making them a valuable consideration for anyone seeking to kickstart a successful career.

Given the chance again, I would go back and still choose to take on a traineeship.

Congratulations to Emily for being awarded the 2024 Trainee of the Year for the North Coast & Mid North Coast NSW Training Awards!

Emily has completed her Certificate III in Business as a Trainee with AFL SportsReady.

“As a high-energy individual with a passion for sport and exercise, I was excited by the potential opportunity to work in the sports industry, and with this experience, I hope to continue in this industry in the future.”
