Adelaide young gun Josh Barrett took home the AFL SportsReady 2015 Trainee of the Year Award for SA and was offered full-time employment with his host organisation, Our Lady of Grace School.

The 2015 Trainee of the Year award is given to the trainee who has demonstrated outstanding achievement and dedication in their traineeship and has gone above and beyond in their workplace.

Josh completed a Certificate IV in Sport and Recreation and helped manage the school sports program.

‘I assisted the P.E teachers in coordinating school sports programs, running after school classes, managing sports days and carnivals as well as general administration tasks for the schools PE department,’ Josh explained.

His supervisor Shana Bennett was highly impressed with his efforts and enthusiasm throughout the year.

‘Josh typified the model trainee, always going above and beyond in his role to ensure the smooth operation of our sporting programs’.

‘He impressed his colleagues at the school, none more so than Principal Shana Bennet, who offered to employ Josh as their Student Support Officer at the completion of his traineeship,’ Shana added.

Josh’s dream career is to work in sport with children and this traineeship has given him the opportunity to do just that.

‘Being able to study and seeing that study being put into practice has been the most beneficial part of my experience and best of all I got a full time job!’
