Thanks to AFL SportsReady’s university pathway model, 21 year old Georgia Shields, has been accepted into the course of her dreams at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS).

‘After completing my traineeship in 2014 I went on to study a Diploma of Management as a direct student of SportsReady Education. Through this course I was able to get credit points which got me into the Bachelor of Management in Events course at UTS,’ said Georgia.

AFL SportsReady’s exclusive partnerships with some of Australia’s top universities allows trainees and SportsReady education students to gain direct entry pathways and in some instances, course credits.

‘I was able to get 24 credit points from my Diploma which is equal to a semester at uni. Having this help from AFL SportsReady really got me to where I am today,’ she added.

Georgia said it was the whole AFL SportsReady experience that contributed to her achievements. While her Diploma gave her the entry points to get into university, her traineeship gave her the confidence to succeed in the workforce.

‘The business traineeship I did with Profusion Group was so rewarding. My role as Administration Assistant allowed me to take on a variety of responsibilities over the past three years including reception, formatting documents, organising internal and client events and conducting reference checks,’ Georgia said.

‘It provided me with the opportunity to work hard and prove myself in a business that probably would not have hired me straight out of school,’ she explained.

‘Doing a traineeship is a fantastic way for young school leavers to be given the chance to work in a big company with little to no experience.’

Georgia received the NSW 2013/2014 Trainee of the Year award for her outstanding contribution to her host organisation. She was then offered ongoing employment with Profusion Group and has been working there ever since.

‘My experience with Profusion has been invaluable. I have grown so much since I started with AFL SportsReady, they gave me direction and helped me to find a new confidence in my abilities,’ Georgia smiled.

‘I am now about to embark on my new journey with UTS and hopefully one day see myself working in events. It’s been a long journey but I can safely say if it wasn’t for AFL SportsReady I wouldn’t be in the position I am today.’
