Cadetship Opportunities in NSW

The RANZCO Indigenous Cadetship Program supports Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students to complete their undergraduate degree and gain professional work experience within the organisation. Cadets are provided with a study allowance and 50 days paid work per calendar year as part of the program.


The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO) is the specialist medical college for ophthalmologists in Australia and New Zealand overseeing a Vocational Training Program (VTP), continuing professional development (CPD), scientific congresses and meetings, and advocacy.

Their mission is to lead eye care by setting and improving standards, providing lifelong education, promoting research and innovation and advocating on behalf of patients, their communities and our membership.

Multiple roles available! We are seeking applications from students in the following fields:

Cadetship 1 – Data Analyst

  • Currently enrolled in Bachelor of Data Analytics, Bachelor of Information Technology

Cadetship 2 – Outreach Portal Administrator

  • Currently enrolled Bachelor of Business (Human Resource Management)

  • Cadets are eligible to receive per semester; a Study Allowance of up to $6,815 and a Book Allowance of $524.
Am I eligible?

Positions are open to students all around Australia.  To be considered for a Cadetship you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be of Aboriginal Australian and/or Torres Strait Islander descent
  • Identify as an Aboriginal Australian and/or Torres Strait Islander
  • Be accepted as an Aboriginal Australian and/or Torres Strait Islander in the community in which they live or have lived
  • Be enrolled for full-time study (defined as at least 75% of the full-time study load) at a university located in Australia
  • Be enrolled in their first undergraduate degree course
  • Be studying full time (unless in your final year of study)
  • Be an Australian resident

Cadetship 1 – Data Analyst

Location: Surry Hills, NSW

Degree: Studying towards a bachelor’s degree in data science/data analytics or equivalent

Role Purpose: To support the development and maintenance of a robust reporting platform for three monthly and annual trainee surveys to support the RANZCO accreditation function. This role supports precise operational reporting and actively informs key stakeholders through highly actionable, data driven insights.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the development of interactive dashboards and reports (e.g. Power BI, Excel, Zoho) to track and analyse trainee survey data
  • Extract, validate and manage data to ensure accuracy and meaningful insights.
  • Present data insights and reporting tools clearly to stakeholders, including committees and partners.
  • Work with stakeholders to gather and document data and reporting requirements.
  • Assist in improving systems by transitioning manual processes into streamlined digital solutions.
  • Contribute to prototyping and testing reporting tools to support effective system design and implementation.

Cadetship 2 – Outreach Portal Administrator

Location: Surry Hills, NSW

Degree: Studying towards a bachelor’s degree in business/human resources or equivalent

Role Purpose: The Outreach Portal Administrator is responsible for maintaining and updating the RANZCO Outreach Portal to ensure accurate and current, information regarding ophthalmology outreach services across Australia. This role supports improved visibility, coordination, and engagement of outreach services by ensuring timely collection, verification, and publication of program information consistent with the Outreach Service Information Collection Templates.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect, review and update outreach service information to keep portal content accurate and complete
  • Maintain consistent, high-quality data entry across all program listings, including formatting and terminology
  • Liaise with outreach coordinators and stakeholders to gather, verify and follow up on required information
  • Support stakeholders to complete templates correctly and ensure all key program details are captured
  • Ensure content is culturally appropriate, respectful and relevant, particularly for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
  • Conduct regular quality checks and contribute to reporting and administrative support for broader team activities
