Explore your Passion for the Outdoors

Are you passionate about sports and love being outdoors? Do you dream of turning your passion for physical activity into a rewarding career? A traineeship in a school sports department might be the perfect fit for you!

Introducing Mitchyl Doherty, a dedicated First Nations Trainee who honed his passions into a Gym Trainee at Salesian College Sunbury. For Mitchyl, the traineeship wasn’t just a job – This opportunity offered a chance to jump into a career. Particularly, in an area that aligned with his passion for sport and being outdoors.

With the majority of his workday spent outdoors, engaging in various activities. Mitchyl highlights the dynamic nature of the role.

I would recommend someone to take on at traineeship in my role if they love the outdoors and sport. I wouldn’t recommend it to someone who doesn’t, As my role includes a lot of outdoors and physical stuff.

But it’s not all fun and games. Mitchyl highlights the importance of balancing practical tasks with the educational component. While you may be enjoying the great outdoors, you’ll also need to at least dedicate time to completing coursework related to your Certificate III in Sport and Recreation.

My advice to someone taking on a traineeship is spend your time wisely and make sure to keep up to date with the education component of the traineeship!

One of the most rewarding aspects of Mitchyl’s traineeship was interacting with a wide range of people daily.

As a First Nations trainee, Mitchyl found immense support and guidance in his mentor, Ralph White. Regular mentoring sessions provided a platform for discussing football, and personal achievements, seeking advice, and creating a supportive environment throughout his journey.

As a First Nations Trainee having a mentor like Ralph White has been really great. It is nice to know I can always call him and have really appreciated the regular mentoring sessions throughout my traineeship.

And let’s not forget about the exciting events! Mitchyl’s traineeship allowed him to participate in premier league matches and exciting excursions, such as surfing trips to Torquay, alongside year 9/10 students.

Imagine being part of such thrilling experiences, helping with supervision and participating in activities that you love – it’s a dream job for any sports enthusiast!

So, why wait? If you’re ready to explore your potential and pursue your passion for sports and the outdoors, a traineeship in a school sports department could be your ticket to an exciting and fulfilling career.

With dedicated mentors and a supportive work environment to nurture your growth, the possibilities are endless.
