Sparking (School Library) Joy

In the quiet corridors of Salesian College Sunbury, Jem Sinfield casts a bright light upon the library, infusing it with creativity and a dedication to student engagement. From his talent for crafting captivating displays to his leadership in curating diverse collections. Jem’s journey from being a recent high school graduate to an integral team member demonstrates passion and innovation.

At the heart of Jem’s contributions, lies his knack for creating visually stunning displays that capture the attention of the students. Whether it’s a seasonal showcase or a themed exhibit. His displays breathe life into the library, sparking curiosity and excitement among visitors.

We create all kinds of displays, Including themes for Spring, Autumn, Halloween, Star Wars and Book week.

I love seeing students walk in and their faces lighting up when they see the displays I have made!

In addition to his creative endeavours, Jem is pursuing a Business Certificate III while immersing himself in the intricacies of library management. Despite graduating from another school in 2021. Jem seamlessly integrated into his role at the college. Bringing fresh ideas and enthusiasm to the library.

According to Jem’s supervisor, Lauren Kyte, During his time as an AFL SportsReady Trainee;

Jem demonstrated an outstanding commitment to learning his new role as a Library Technician, as well as balancing his studies.

Jem quickly mastered the administrative requirements of his position; including cataloguing, borrowing and collection development. He then actively sought projects to challenge himself and extend upon his work.

Recognised for his initiative, Jem played a pivotal role in refining the library’s collection, particularly in the history section. By curating relevant materials and decluttering outdated resources. He ensures the library remains a vibrant and relevant hub for all students.

Supervisor Lauren commends his exceptional contributions. From mastering administrative tasks to leading initiatives like the Lego Club. Jem has demonstrated a remarkable commitment to enhancing the student experience.

The Lego Club has flourished under his guidance into a space of creativity and inclusivity, building connections among students of varying backgrounds.

Jem has worked extensively with a member of staff to lead this Club, including planning Club Challenges and co-supervision of weekly meetings.

Jem’s facilitation of this Club significantly increased his visibility amongst our students!

In the eyes of his colleagues, Jem is more than a Trainee; he is a valued team member whose passion for learning and innovation inspires those around him.
As the library evolves, Jem continues to elevate library experiences, leaving an indelible mark on the college and the students.

With each display meticulously crafted and each collection thoughtfully curated. Jem ensures the library remains a dynamic and welcoming space for all who enter its doors.
As he looks towards further professional growth, Jem’s dedication to enriching the student experience is an inspiration for libraries everywhere!
