The Impact of Traineeships in Footy

The Impact of Traineeships in Footy

Scott Biddle, Zone Development Leader at the South Australian National Football League (SANFL), knows firsthand the impact of traineeships on the sport. Responsible for driving participation across the Glenelg and Woodville West Torrens Football Clubs.
Scott embraced the opportunity to welcome a Game Development Trainee, Bailey Gaskin, into his team.

The SANFL recognised the need for additional resources following a restructuring, allowing for the introduction of a Trainee in each zone to help bolster community programs.

Having a trainee like Bailey on board has been a game changer!

His daily tasks include delivering Auskick programs; engaging with clubs, schools and volunteers and ensuring the strategic growth of participation in the community.

Scott highlights that having a Trainee not only enhances the programs offered but also elevates his own leadership capabilities.

It’s been fantastic to witness Bailey’s development throughout his traineeship.

His growth has been so significant that he secured a full-time position with SANFL after completing his traineeship.

Bailey’s presence has provided SANFL with the extra support necessary to overcome resourcing barriers in delivering programs. This increase in capacity has allowed the organisation to reach more participants and expand community impact.

The guidance and assistance from AFL SportsReady have also been pivotal.

Ensuring both Scott and Bailey get the most out of the experience.

Scott wholeheartedly recommends the AFL SportsReady program to other organisations.

It’s a win-win situation.

With the right support, Trainees can help deliver key business outcomes while kicking off their careers in footy.
