Meet one of AFL SportsReady’s young guns, kicking goals for the Sydney Football Club in her role as their Ticket Sales and Fan Engagement Administrator.

WHAT IS YOUR ROLE?
My Current role is Ticket Sales and Fan Engagement Administrator

DID YOU LIKE AFL BEFORE YOU STARTED WORKING AT THE SWANS?
I didn’t really watch AFL at all, I had only seen bits of some VFL games on TV because I was watching a friend’s brother play.

DO YOU ENJOY THE GAME NOW AND WHY?

Most definitely, I think once you see a game of AFL live it completely changes your view on the game. The atmosphere at an AFL game is amazing and you get to see so much more of the game then you do on TV.

WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY WORKING ON?
Currently I am working on a number of different projects, but the main one is a Fan Engagement program that we run for fans under the age of 15, my daily tasks usually revolve around the Red Rookie program.

WHAT IS THE BEST PART OF A TRAINEESHIP?
I think the best part about being a trainee is the experience that you are able to gain while you are studying. Most people don’t get that experience until they have finished their study, so the fact that I have been able to do both at the same time has been an amazing opportunity.

WHAT HAVE YOU GOTTEN OUT OF THE TRAINEESHIP?
Where do I start? I have gotten so much out of my traineeship, not just the experience of working at a AFL club and my TAFE certificate but I have gotten to see how a business works as a team and the number of different of departments that you can branch out into in the Sporting Industry. I also got a lot out of it in a personal sense, I have gotten to know my strengths as a worker, while also understanding my weaknesses and working on them to better myself.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO YOUNG PEOPLE WANTING TO UNDERTAKE A TRAINEESHIP?
Take the opportunity while you have it and learn as much as you possibly can from the experience as you never know what will come out of it. Even if you don’t get the first traineeship you apply for or the one after that, don’t get discouraged because you never know when the next opportunity will pop up.

WHAT ARE YOU DOING AFTER YOUR TRAINEESHIP?
After I finish my traineeship I will be taking up a full time role at the Sydney Swans, while completing a Diploma of Marketing through the club.
