    We invite you to express your interest in the Cadetship program. Your detailed responses will help the team identify individuals who align with the eligibility (as listed above). Please provide as much information as possible to ensure your consideration for upcoming opportunities. We appreciate your time and look forward to reviewing your submission.

    Applicants for the Cadetship Program must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent.
    Opportunities are available to applicants currently enrolled in an Australian undergraduate course.
    Opportunities suited for applicants who are working to complete an undergraduate degree.

    To apply for a Cadetship, applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:

    • Be of Aboriginal Australian and/or Torres Strait Islander descent
    • Identify as an Aboriginal Australian and/or Torres Strait Islander
    • Be accepted as an Aboriginal Australian and/or Torres Strait Islander in the community in which they live or have lived
    • Be enrolled for full-time study (defined as at least 75% of the full-time study load) occurring on campus at a university located in Australia
    • Be enrolled in their first undergraduate degree course
    • Be an Australian resident
    • Have signed an employment contract for a minimum of 10 weeks of work per annum

    Applicants are not eligible for a Cadetship if they:

    • Have previously completed a Cadetship
    • Had a previous Cadetship terminated
    • Are studying part-time (unless in their final year or semester of study)
    • Are studying for 12 months or less (unless in the final year of study)
    • Are studying for one (1) semester or less
    • Have already completed an undergraduate degree
    • Are undertaking a foundation or bridging course
    • Are undertaking study overseas that is not part of their Australian university enrollment
    • Propose to defer any part of their study
    • Take longer to complete a degree than normal.
    • Are enrolled in a block release arrangement.
    • Are enrolled in a distance learning study arrangement (off-campus).

The Cadetship Program assists First Nation Australians in ensuring their success in completing studies and gaining practical work experience that develops essential workplace skills in their chosen field.

AFL SportsReady’s Cadetship Program is a Commonwealth-funded initiative aimed at providing support to First Nations Australians studying at a university full-time.

The Cadetship Program offers students paid employment in a role related to their field of study for 10 weeks per year, for up to three years. This allows students to gain professional employment experience alongside their studies and provides employers with knowledgeable and eager individuals passionate about their industry, building the next generation of First Nations professionals.

Eligible students will receive a Study Allowance of up to $12,000 per year (GST exclusive) and a Book and Equipment Allowance of up to $1,000 (GST exclusive) per year.
