National wheelchair basketball champion Jeremy Tyndall is proving to be a sporting success on and off the court, thanks to his traineeship with AFL SportsReady.

Jeremy has turned his attention to the 12 month sport and recreation training program, assisting teachers at his former secondary school Saint Mary of the Angel’s in country Victoria.

‘I love my sport and want to make a living out of it. So when my Careers coordinator told me about the traineeship, I thought it would be a great opportunity and this was for me,’ he said.

The nineteen year old works across PE, Sport and Special Needs classes at the Nathalia colleges as part of his traineeship, while also organising excursions and building strong bonds with students and staff.

‘I like helping the kids who struggle a lot and watching them improve. It is wonderful knowing I am helping people grow.’

The Waaia Football Club Assistant Coach is now 7 months into his AFL SportsReady Traineeship and completing a Certificate III in Sport and Recreation. The sporting star now plans to continue working full-time and hitting the basketball court for the Victorian state team, before studying to become a teacher.

‘The traineeship helped give me the direction to work out how to get into teaching. Now I’m on my way.’
