2014 Field of Women
The Chair of AFL SportsReady, The Hon Linda Dessau AM is an Ambassador of the 2014 Field of Women, a fantastic initiative of the Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA).
This unique event highlights the personal impact of breast cancer on our community and is your chance to stand up and show your support for all Australians affected by breast cancer. Importantly, it raises awareness, so more women undertake screening which can promote earlier detection.
Fifteen thousand people wearing pink ponchos will stand on the MCG on Saturday 10 May before the Melbourne v Bulldogs game and will form the shape of the pink woman logo of BCNA. Unfortunately, the 15,000 people represent the number of Australian women (and some men) diagnosed each year with breast cancer.
It is an incredibly moving event, but also awe-inspiring to see breast cancer survivors and friends and family side by side on the MCG. Everyone is welcome to participate – you don’t have to have had breast cancer to take part.
The event also raises much needed funds so that BCNA can continue to support the women and their families, who so desperately need support through diagnosis, treatment and beyond. 100% of the proceeds from ticket sales go to BCNA to ensure it can continue its important work supporting all Australians affected by breast cancer. Tickets include a pink poncho, a backpack & a ticket to the AFL match on the night.
