AFL NSW/ACT is responsible for the governance, administration, development and marketing of Australian Football across the region. Focusing on the growth and participation of the sport throughout NSW and the ACT.

Reporting to the Umpiring Development Lead, this position supports the AFL Community Football department. Providing key administrative assistance to ensure the smooth operation of all umpiring activities. The Trainee will work closely with Umpiring Coordinators across AFL NSW/ACT to help deliver high-quality programs and services that contribute to the development and growth of community umpiring.

Key Responsibilities: The Trainee will assist with weekly umpire administration tasks including payroll, appointments and training content. They will support umpire recruitment through timely follow-up of leads within the national database and work alongside AFL Sydney Umpire Coaches to coordinate weekly match appointments. Complete all AFL Sydney Junior Umpire appointments and ensure umpire programs are booked and delivered in line with program curriculum and AFL expectations. They will also assist the AFL Sydney Umpire Coordinator with the delivery of Come & Try sessions.

The successful applicant will have well-developed verbal and written communication, interpersonal and presentation skills, personal initiative, the ability to work effectively without supervision and an enthusiastic, energetic attitude. To excel in this role, the applicant will need strong organisational and time management skills, attention to detail and a willingness to follow processes. An interest in as well as an understanding of AFL umpiring and a readiness to learn are essential. The Trainee must also be able to work flexible hours and is eager to contribute to the game’s continued growth.

National Training Wage from: $28,100 – $43,500, plus 12% Superannuation
