In a world where assumptions can often overshadow reality, it’s time to debunk a common misconception. Contrary to popular belief, AFL SportsReady’s traineeships aren’t just about sports and AFL. At Saint Ignatius College Geelong, Zachary Dwyer is breaking those preconceived ideas embracing a unique path in spirituality through his Youth Ministry Traineeship.
Situated amidst the Bellarine Peninsula near Geelong, Victoria, Saint Ignatius College Geelong stands as an option for holistic education. Their motto, “Amare Et Servire” (To Love and To Serve), epitomises their commitment to fostering a community in love, service and spiritual growth.
Over the past month, Zachary has delved into many activities, showcasing the breadth of experiences offered in this role.
From guiding Journey classes for years 9-12 to participating in spiritual retreats and camps, such as the ongoing year 12 Retreat at Don Bosco camp.
Administrative duties? Check. Zachary is knee-deep in stocktakes, ordering essentials and meticulously planning and organising various facets of the ministry. But it doesn’t stop there. He’s actively involved in masses, liturgies and regular faith-based prayers every Friday morning, infusing his work with a spiritual side.
So, what exactly does Zachary’s role entail? Let’s break it down.
As a Youth Ministry Trainee, he’s the backbone of support for the Ministry Team and the Religious Education department.
From nurturing the spiritual growth of students to facilitating community engagement with the church, Zachary’s responsibilities are as diverse as they are impactful.
His duties range from education in faith, where he incorporates Ignatian elements into school life, to providing support for youth ministry initiatives and assisting with religious education curriculum planning. He’s the go-to person for organising community masses, special events and projects, ensuring aspects of the ministry run seamlessly.
But it’s not just about ticking off tasks from a to-do list. Zachary embodies the values of teamwork, communication and attention to detail. His enthusiasm and positive attitude infuse energy into every project, while his strong time management skills keep everything on track.
And let’s not forget the groundbreaking aspect of this endeavour. While Saint Ignatius College has been a valued partner for the past three years, offering sport traineeships, this marks the inaugural year of the Youth Ministry Traineeship. It’s a testament to their commitment to holistic education and the recognition of their students’ diverse talents and passions.
At Saint Ignatius College Geelong, the Youth Ministry Traineeship isn’t just a job—it’s quite possibly a life-changing experience.
It’s about nurturing young minds, fostering a sense of community and embracing the richness of faith.
So, the next time you hear about a traineeship, remember Zachary’s story. We’re more than just sport and football. We’re about encouraging diversity, growth and the boundless potential of everyone who walks through our doors.
