Alumni Receives Prestigious Scholarship
We are incredibly proud of ArtsReady graduate Harrison Shepherd, who was recently announced as a 2023 New Colombo Plan (NCP) Scholar. Harrison, proud Wiradjuri man completed his ArtsReady traineeship at his old school, Nowra Anglican College in 2020.
As a trainee in the Performing Arts Department, he was responsible for providing classroom assistance and so much more.
Some of Harrison’s key responsibilities included:
- Choir accompaniment
- Administrative class duties
- Excursion organisation and assistance
- Administration and assistance for events
- School production assistance
“I feel incredibly grateful for my traineeship! It particularly helped with my maturity, working with accredited professionals in a busy and large workplace,” said Harrison.
This traineeship allowed Harrison to combine his passion for the performing arts and his interest in teaching. Since graduating, he has started a Bachelor of Education (primary) with the University of Newcastle.
The NCP is an initiative of the Australian Government and is one of the most prestigious scholarship programs supporting undergraduates to study and increase their knowledge of the Indo-Pacific. With this paid exchange opportunity to Fiji, Harrison will be able to get involved in community teaching whilst completing his final years of study.
Through this program, he has already had the chance to meet the Governor General of Australia (pictured above). As well as interact with some of the future leaders of Australia.
Taking on the ArtsReady traineeship with AFL SportsReady has provided Harrison with valuable industry experience and ignited his passion to pursue a teaching career.
Harrison believes Traineeships are a great post-school option.
