Trainee Commitment to a Teaching Career
The future is bright for Noah Egan, a Health and Physical Education Trainee at Churchlands Senior High School. Recently recognised as the 2024 Trainee of the Year for Western Australia, Noah’s traineeship has been a journey of growth, learning and discovery, shaping his aspirations for a teaching career.
Reflecting on his time as a Trainee, Noah shares,
I really enjoyed my time because I gained so much experience in a field I’ve always wanted to work in.
Going on excursions with staff and visiting new places was a highlight.
Despite his stellar performance, Noah remained humble about the award.
I wasn’t sure if I would win, but I wouldn’t have been upset if I didn’t.
The entire traineeship was rewarding enough.
Noah attributes much of his success to the strong support network provided by AFL SportsReady and his colleagues at Churchlands.
I could ask my Field Officer for help with theory work at any time, and the staff were always there to assist with the practical side. They never hesitated to help.
This support allowed him to gain confidence and grow both personally and professionally.
Throughout his traineeship, Noah developed meaningful relationships with students and colleagues alike.
I gained a lot of confidence working with my colleagues and felt comfortable helping students throughout lessons.
I built strong teacher-student relationships and in return, the students gave me the respect I needed to succeed.
Noah’s, traineeship experience has been invaluable and he strongly recommends it to others interested in education.
This is a great option for anyone looking to pursue teaching at university. It gives you hands-on experience and valuable insights before you even start your studies.
Looking ahead, Noah is focused on completing his university degree in education.
Finishing my degree is the next step, and I’m hoping for a long career in teaching.
Noah’s supervisor, Chris Van Maanen, Head of Health and Physical Education at Churchlands Senior High School, couldn’t be prouder of his achievements.
Noah shows maturity beyond his years and is incredibly reliable. He not only completes tasks to a high standard but also takes on extra responsibilities, like offering additional volleyball coaching sessions on his own initiative. He’s been instrumental in forming our first senior boys volleyball team.
Noah’s work ethic and commitment have been outstanding and he has truly thrived in his role.
I wouldn’t hesitate to employ him as a teacher when he finishes his studies.
