AFL SportsReady has provided traineeship support to schools right across Australia since 1994 and supported more than 1,000 trainees in schools.

Our traineeships are designed to meet the needs of both the school and the trainee and can be full time or part time. Initially, AFL SportsReady traineeships provided much needed support to teachers delivering physical education and sports programs in primary and secondary schools. Now we have diversified and can also provide support across administration, information technology and, more recently, visual and performing arts through our new program, ArtsReady.

AFL SportsReady is also committed to providing young Indigenous people with the opportunity to make that first career step. Our Indigenous Employment Program can provide both schools and Indigenous trainees with the support and mentoring to make an Indigenous traineeship a genuine success.

Getting the right qualification is important for Trainees. SportsReady Education, our Registered Training Organisation, ensures that AFL SportsReady meets the highest education standards for all our trainees and schools. Schools provide the workplace environment where a young trainee can thrive. The partnership between AFL SportsReady, your school and a trainee can add value to your programs as well as launch the career of a young Australian.

  • We are committed to working with our host employers to develop their understanding of Indigenous people, culture and community
  • We have proven success building careers for young Indigenous Australians

THE ELIZABETH MURDOCH COLLEGE CASE STUDY

Ryan Larkin’s colleagues at Elisabeth Murdoch College call him the best trainee the school has ever had. However, Brook Taylor, the school’s Director of Sport, goes a step further by describing Ryan as the most competent young man she has ever met.

“Ryan’s impact on the school was immediate, impressing his colleagues with his willingness to listen, learn and develop his leadership and communication skills. As a highly organised administrator, he is typically thinking three steps ahead and often goes out of his way to help other members of staff.”

“Ryan assisted with community / fundraising events, however his most significant contribution was managing the school’s softball, baseball and tennis programs. He also played a huge role in the highly successful swimming and athletics carnivals.”

“Ryan’s influence on the college has been remarkable, as he works incredibly hard to ensure students have a great experience when they participate in sport programs. Ryan is also a role model for the student body.”

“Ryan has returned to Elisabeth Murdoch College taking up a new traineeship position where he continues to excel at his usual high standard.”

“If you are thinking about doing a traineeship, I say go for it. It has probably been the best experience of my life. This is really my first actual job and it has given me a lot of additional skills that I didn’t have previously.”

“The entire AFL SportsReady program has been great. They have taken me under their wing and whenever you speak with someone from the organisation, they make you feel part of it.”
