Trainee Plans To Focus On His Studies Amid Coronavirus

Current sports trainee and aspiring PE teacher, Jaxon Bilchuris, is keeping his head up high as the country slowly comes to a halt. His plan is to focus on his studies and keep looking towards a bright future in sports.

“There are lots of preparations in place at the moment at the school I am doing my traineeship at, Newman College in WA, so I am feeling positive and also whatever time I have at home I will be really getting stuck into all my course work and studies,” said Jaxon.

“I also know AFL SportsReady and my host employer will help me feel supported, so far they have been incredible, and I’ve never felt uneasy about anything,” he added.

Jaxon is a big supporter of the traineeship program and believes taking on a traineeship is one of the best decisions he has ever made. In fact, this year he is completing his second traineeship. 

“In 2019 I completed my Certificate IV in Sport and Recreation with Newman College and what a year it was.

I honestly love being a part of the school’s Sports department team and I have learnt so much from teachers who had been at the school for decades. I loved the experience so much that I just wasn’t ready to leave, so I took on another traineeship at the school and now I’m studying a Certificate IV in Fitness.”

From Outdoor Ed camps, to travelling through WA, to abseiling off cliffs and winning a premiership for the school’s footy team, these are just some of the many highlights of Jaxon’s experience with Newman College.

“I’ve done some remarkable things during my traineeship and seen some places I have only dreamed of seeing. My gratitude is beyond words and to put it simply I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else but at this amazing school.

My traineeship has prepared me for my future, it has given me confidence and it has filled me up with knowledge and connected me to some of the best PE teachers out.

No matter what is going in in the world right now, I am feeling pretty good about my career path and my traineeship inspires me to keep staying positive and to keep looking towards a bright and exciting future as a PE teacher.”
