Hosts Do Battle at the ‘G’
22 Lucky host employers and partners of AFL SportsReady were given the chance of a lifetime…
In partnership with AFL Victoria, AFL SportsReady offered the opportunity to our host employers and partners to realise their childhood dreams and run out onto the hallowed turf of the MCG, to do battle in a game of Cadbury AFL 9s.
The two teams of 11 were selected to participate based on their creative responses to AFL SportsReady’s call to action. The responses ranged from clever cartoons, funny limericks and passionate emails seeking redemption for past sporting failures.
A crowd of nearly 50,000 strong turned up to watch North Melbourne take on Richmond, but were pleasantly surprised when at half time, the real battle began. The punters forfeited their usual trip to the bathroom via the tuckshop, to witness what promised to be a ‘clash for the ages’.
With the faint smell of liniment in the air, the two teams ran through the race and onto the turf. Nerves were fluttering, hearts were pounding; excitement was building. AFL talent scouts were on hand, salivating with notepads at the ready.
The statisticians at Champion Data were kept busy as both teams opted for an attacking offensive structure, with no visible defensive mindset. Most experienced the glory of a goal, while others only the pain of a torn hamstring.
A memorable experience was shared by all.
