Applications open for the Jill Lindsay Scholarship

Jill Lindsay was the AFL’s longest serving employee having completed 41 years at the AFL in various roles including VFL Park Match Day Manager and VFL Membership Manager before being appointed Grounds Operations Manager in 1991.

On February 7, 2011, Jill passed away after losing her battle with cancer.

In recognition of Jill’s outstanding service the AFL Commission created the annual Jill Lindsay Scholarship to be awarded to the female graduate with the most potential who has come through the AFL SportsReady program and currently working in the AFL industry.
 


SCHOLARSHIP PRIZE

 

The Jill Lindsay Scholarship is awarded to the female graduate with the most potential to come through the AFL SportsReady program. The successful candidate is awarded $20,000 to assist further education and a laptop computer.

In addition, Andi Pert, an HR consultant specializing in leadership development and executive coaching, will mentor the recipient of the Jill Lindsay Scholarship for 12 months. Andi is the wife of Collingwood FC Chief Executive Officer Gary Pert and played softball in teams coached by Jill Lindsay.

Previous winners of the Jill Lindsay Scholarship include;

  • Emily Wastle from AFL Queensland in 2015
  • Emily Buysen from the North Melbourne Football Club in 2014
  • Lauren Byrnes from AFL SportsReady in 2013 and
  • Hayley Robinson from the AFL Umpires Association in 2012

 


ELIGIBILITY

The contribution of women is critical to the development and growth of the game and we want to not only recognise female leaders currently involved in the AFL industry, but to also encourage women to pursue a pathway in Australian football.

Women are eligible to apply if they are currently working in the AFL industry and completed an AFL SportsReady traineeship. The nominee can be any female that has graduated from the AFL SportsReady program since the program’s inception.
 


NOMINATION PROCESS

To nominate, applicants are required to download complete the nomination form below and address the selection criteria. Representatives from the AFL and AFL SportsReady will form the panel to select the 2016 Jill Lindsay scholarship winner.

Nominations close on Monday 29th February with the winner announced at the 2016 AFL Women’s Lunch on Thursday 5th of May 2016.
