AFL SportsReady committed to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employment outcomes

In a recent announcement by the Australian Government, AFL SportsReady was announced as the new Vocational Training & Employment Centre (VTEC) for Victoria and Tasmania, the first servicing Tasmania.

As part of the partnership, AFL SportsReady will look to identify 150 job placements for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander jobseekers across a range of industries.

James Montgomery, the Chief Executive Officer of AFL SportsReady welcomed the Minister’s announcement.

“AFL SportsReady is a national company that has been helping people find employment for more than 20 years,” said Mr Montgomery.

“Over that time we have helped start the careers of over 12,000 young people of whom over 1,300 have been Indigenous.

“We are looking forward to continuing our work with Victorian and Tasmanian employers to connect them with local Indigenous jobseekers, and will support those jobseekers in developing the skills that enable them to be successful in the workforce.”

Jade Colgan, Executive Manager for Indigenous Programs at AFL SportsReady is thrilled to be building on our current programs and commitment to employment outcomes for young Australians.

“It’s a really exciting time as we move forward with the establishment of AFL SportsReady’s VTEC for both Victoria and Tasmania. With over 20% of our staff identifying as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and being represented across all levels of seniority in our business, we know this puts us in a really good position to deliver on positive employment outcomes for our mob.

“The fact that we will be able to work towards placing 150 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people into employment across various industries is a great thing and in line with what our Indigenous Programs are all about.”
