AFL SportsReady Alumni Attributes Traineeship to Career Success

10 years ago, AFL SportsReady Alumni, Brianna Klinberg, completed a traineeship and says without it, she wouldn’t be in a job she loves.

“I want to share my traineeship experience because my traineeship helped me get to where I am now, a Recruitment Coordinator for a top accounting firm. I believe the program will help many other young people for years to come,” said Brianna.

Brianna started out as Administration Assistant working with Bowls Australia and studied a Certificate IV in Sport and Recreation.

I didn’t get the desired results to get into a Sports Management degree after finishing year 12. I wanted to work in sport but wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted to do. The traineeship was the perfect opportunity for me to get a foot in the door in the sports industry.”

“I stayed in the sporting industry for 5 years after graduating from my traineeship and it was brilliant. Although I am not in sport now, I hope to work in the industry again but in a Human Recourses (HR) role.”

Brianna believes her traineeship was the launching pad for her career. It gave her the experience, connections and confidence she needed to continue working in the sporting industry.

“Through my traineeship experience at Bowls Australia I had the chance to work in many different areas. I loved administration however I found that my real passion was HR.”

As part of her traineeship Brianna was involved in events such as The Australian Open and the Commonwealth Games.

“The traineeship was exciting, everyday I was dealing with something different.”

“After graduating I was offered a full-time role with Bowls Australia and from there my career flourished.”

Brianna worked at Bowls Australia for another two years before moving to a new role with Athletics Australia as a Personal Assistant. She then followed her heart and decided to get into HR.

“I currently work for a mid-tier accounting firm where I look after the end to end recruitment for junior level roles. I thoroughly enjoy it here.”

“If I had of rushed into a university degree I wouldn’t be doing something I love. After my traineeship experience I knew I wanted to work with people and help them to achieve their career ambitions.”

“If you’re not sure what you want to do in your career, a traineeship is your answer. Thanks to my traineeship I know I am in the right job for me.”
