AFLPA Launch Player Agent Course
The AFL Players’ Association in conjunction with AFL SportsReady is pleased to announce a vocational pathway for prospective player agents. The Executive Certificate – Player Agents will cover the key areas of competency required to become a player agent, starting in late October.
The AFLPA’s General Manager of Player Relations Ian Prendergast says the course provides a unique opportunity for those wishing to pursue a career in that field. “Being a player agent requires a lot of different skills. This course will teach the lot, from the ability to identify talent, through to the regulatory environment that player agents operate under” Prendergast said. “There’s a lot to learn, but this is a great place to start.”
Though completion of the certificate does not guarantee accreditation, participants will receive one unit of credit towards La Trobe University’s Master of Management (Sport Management) course Those wishing to gain accreditation as an AFL Player Agent must sit and pass the AFLPA’s Entrance Examination, held nationally throughout June each year. The application fee for agent accreditation will be waived for those who successfully complete this course.
The course – which is being run for the first time in 2013 – includes six evening workshops (5:00pm to 9:30pm) and each will include two guest lectures from highly-credentialed figures within the football industry.
