What is a Traineeship or Apprenticeship?

Traineeships
A traineeship combines paid work with formal training. You'll learn on the job, build practical skills and complete a nationally recognised qualification. It is a great way to start your career, explore your options or try something new. Traineeships are available in many industries, including sport and recreation, business and administration, education, finance, IT and arts. They can be full-time or part-time over a 12-24 month period.

Apprenticeships
An apprenticeship combines paid work with formal training to develop the skills needed for a skilled trade. You'll learn on the job, gain practical experience and complete a nationally recognised qualification. Apprenticeships are common in industries such as construction, electrical, plumbing, automotive and horticulture. They generally take 3–4 years to complete and can set you up with practical skills and a qualification for a career in your chosen trade.
What are the Qualifications?
As part of your traineeship or apprenticeship, you'll complete a nationally recognised qualification directly connected to your role. For example, a Health & Physical Education trainee working in a school would complete a Certificate III in Sport, Aquatics & Recreation. Your training is included, so you gain valuable skills and a recognised qualification without the cost of traditional full-time study.
Depending on your role you could complete a:
• Certificate II
• Certificate III
• Certificate IV
