PREPARING PLAYERS FOR LIFE AFTER SPORT

In partnership with the AFL Players’ Association, AFL SportsReady deliver a range of career and personal development programs to current and former AFL players. These programs assist in preparing AFL players for the transition, both into becoming a professional sportsperson and a career beyond sport, by developing the skills required to succeed both on and off the field.

THE FOOTBALL INDUCTION PROGRAM

Recognised by AFL clubs as the industry-leading induction program, the Football Induction Program complements AFL clubs’ football academies and assists with the successful transition of players into the AFL system.

Since the program began in 2006, over 1,000 players entering the AFL system, participated in and completed our Football Induction Program.

The Football Induction Program also provides players with a Certificate III in Sport Career Oriented Participation (COP) – exclusive to AFL Players.

NEXT GOAL CAREER TRANSITION PROGRAMS

The following Next Goal Career Transition Programs are available for all AFL players to further develop their career aspirations off the field.

AFL PLAYER EDUCATION

Designed for AFL players and building on the Certificate III – AFL Player Induction Program, The Next Goal AFL Player Education Program provides opportunities for players to continue their education.

Players can continue their education in Certificate IV and Diploma level courses in areas including:

  • Business
  • Sport Development
  • Fitness
  • Management

Players who decide to follow a pathway into university can benefit from our exclusive partnerships and collaborations with a number of universities across Australia.

NEXT GOAL WORK PLACEMENTS

Players are provided with practical work experience and on-the-job training in an industry of their choice.

Since 2002, more than 300 players have enjoyed the benefits of a Next Goal Work Placement, which is structured in consultation with the player’s football obligations and the partner employer’s expectations to achieve a successful outcome for both player and employer.
