DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Performing Arts Trainee will gain experience in Theatre Production and the Performing Arts, as well as working with students from Year 7 to 12 in Drama, Music, Theatre and Dance classes.
The Trainee will provide support and assistance to the Performing Arts Department with the planning and delivery of quality programs, productions and events at the School.
Role:
The Performing Arts Trainee is accountable to the Principal via the Head of Performing Arts.
Key Responsibilities:
· Have an interest in Performing Arts and in working with young people.
· Assist with the organisation and preparation of materials for Performing Arts lessons.
· Assist with ordering and storage of materials in all departmental areas.
· Assist with the coordination of costumes, set, props, sound, lights, music and marketing for shows and classes.
· Assist with College Productions and Academic Performing Arts Showcases.
· Be the Assistant Producer for the College Musical
· Assist in the set-up and maintenance of Performing Arts Spaces.
· Facilitate the borrowing of Musical Instruments to Year 7 & 8 Students.
· To acquire enough skills, knowledge and experience to operate independently as the sole sound and lighting technician on duty by the end of the Traineeship;
· Support the development and maintenance of a best practice OH&S culture within the workplace.
· Provide administrative support to the Head of Performing Arts and Director of Music.
· At peak times, provide assistance to the Performing Arts Assistant (Instrumental Secretary).
· Support the Head of Music in the maintenance of the Music library.
· Support other school departments in their work with the Performing Arts Department and Performing Arts spaces.
· Work and provide assistance in Performing Arts classes, across all year levels from 7 to Year 12, and in production rehearsals.
· Film and edit student work as directed by performing arts staff.
· Assist and attend Performing Arts incursions, excursions, open days and other events
· Attend and assist on Performing Arts Camps
· Attend Friends of Performing Arts meetings and working bees
· Provide content for the college Social Media Pages
· Maintain a clean, safe and organised learning environment that meets the needs of students and teachers.
· Contribute to the school in a wider context.
· Engage in other negotiated duties according to interests, skills and experience.
Note that some of this work will involve weekends and after hours.
Personal Traits:
· Well-developed skills in an area of the Performing Arts (acting, directing, design and/or technical areas)
· Confidence in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and some knowledge of Apple Software.
· Able to use of Audio-Visual technologies, editing and digital software (Adobe suite)
· Excellent Interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication
· Enthusiasm, motivation and initiative
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team
· Positive and Professional presentation
· Good customer service skills and the ability to strive for continual improvement
· A commitment to ongoing personal and professional development
Qualifications and License Requirements:
· Driver’s License preferred.
· Working with Children Check
Occupational Health & Safety
· Follow ArtsReady and the Loyola’s occupational health and safety policies, procedures and workplace instructions
· Co-operate with the Loyola and ArtsReady with respect to any action taken by the Host Employer and ArtsReady to comply with any requirements to provide a workplace that is safe and without risks to health
· Correctly wear and maintain items of personal protective clothing and equipment that are provided
· Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and for the health and safety of anyone else that may be affected by your actions or omissions whilst at work
· Report any incidents with in the workplace to the employer and ArtsReady without delay
FTE (Full Time)
38 hours per week and 4 weeks annual leave. Duties outside working hours will be logged compensated as time in lieu taken in the student vacation.
Salary/Conditions
This is a full- time position and comes under the Arts Ready program.
Trainees will be given time to complete their Certificate III in Business Arts, delivered by ArtsReady.
The salary and conditions will be determined under the conditions of the ArtsReady program.
The period of appointment is 1 year.

SALARY
As the successful candidate, you will receive:
$21,500 – $30,000 plus 11.5% Superannuation

- People with tertiary qualifications need not apply. Current university applicants may have to defer their studies to be eligible for this traineeship.
- This position is best suited to a recent secondary school leaver.
