DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Position Description: Health and Physical Education Trainee

Role:
Trainees in sport and recreation are diverse and cover many different fields, including coaching and officiating, management, marketing and sports science.
The recreation sector encompasses the ‘non-competitive’ side of physical activity.

The Health and Physical Education Assistant will be required, but not limited to:
Teaching and Learning
• Assist teaching staff to deliver Health Education and Physical Education lessons to students.
• Organise, collect and set up equipment as requested
• Assist in the supervision of students on and offsite
• Assist with the delivery of lessons across the learning area (PE, Health, Outdoor Ed, PES, Sports Rec, Cert)
• Assist with behaviour management of students and admin follow up of any issues that may arise
• Assist with data entry
• Assist teaching staff to deliver Outdoor Education lessons to students
• Organise, collect and set up equipment as requested
• Assist in the facilitation of tasks and supervision of students during outdoor activities i.e. bushwalking, orienteering, canoeing, mountain biking
• Assist with the delivery of lesson both on and offsite
• Facilitate College camp activities and excursions with Outdoor Ed based activities (abseiling, rock climbing, mountain biking, bush walking etc.)
Excursions
• Assist in management, coaching and organisation of College sporting teams (team lists, tryouts, trainings, game day organisation, fields and courts, washing of uniforms, umpiring etc.)
• Assist HPE staff administrative tasks
• Organise, collect and management of equipment and facilitate transport logistics
• Assist in the supervision of students at a variety of excursion including but not limited to:
o Outdoor Education Camps (may include overnight camping in outdoor environment)
o Lower school Lightning Carnivals
o AFL Football Carnivals
o Soccer Carnivals
o Basketball Carnivals
o Netball Carnivals
o Triathlon Events
• Collation of photographs and completion of summary articles at the conclusion of excursion for inclusion in school newsletter and social media.
Carnivals
• Assist with the organisation of:
o Pre-carnival events management
o Organisation and logistics of House Athletics and Swimming Carnivals
o Facilitation of team lists and trainings for Interschool Athletics, Cross Country and Swimming Carnivals
o Facilitation of planning, organisation and running of NEAS Carnival event days
o Interschool ATAR PE Practical events days
o Other carnivals as needed
Equipment and Facilities
• Clean and maintain storage areas in neat orderly manner
• Maintain equipment through stock take and general maintenance
• Liaise with HPE and maintenance staff with equipment storage and management
• Dispose of damaged and faulty equipment
• Assist with the ordering of new equipment
Other
Any other reasonable duties as directed by the Leader of Learning for HPE and the Director of Sport

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Essential Criteria:

• Working with Children check (Willing to obtain prior to commencement)
• Nationally coordinated police check (Willing to obtain prior to commencement)

• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• The capacity to work both collaboratively and independently.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.
• A sound grasp of office information and communication technology.
• A positive and welcoming attitude
• The capacity to organise and schedule efficiently, work quickly and to deadlines.
• The ability to liaise and work positively and constructively with other members of staff, with parents and the wider community.

Working Hour and School Holiday Arrangements

• Work fraction is 1.0 FTE equating to 38 hours per week.
• Work hours will be negotiated between the HOLA and the trainee as it is anticipated that they will be flexible depending on the seasonal demands of the role.
• TOIL will be awarded for any extra time worked, initially during school holidays and then by negotiation via shorter days and / or further days off.

SALARY

As the successful candidate, you will receive:

$21,500 – $30,000 plus 11.5% Superannuation

  • People with tertiary qualifications need not apply. Current university applicants may have to defer their studies to be eligible for this traineeship.
  • This position is best suited to a recent secondary school leaver.
