The First Nations Events and Engagement Trainee will play an integral role in supporting Library events and engagement activities aimed at both internal and external audiences. As a member of the Workforce and Engagement team within the University Library. The Trainee will assist with the coordination of library communications and engagement initiatives. This includes events support, workforce, staff development activities and administrative functions essential to the Library’s operations.

Key Responsibilities: The Trainee will work closely with the Indigenous Engagement Officer to deliver cultural learning activities for Library staff and the wider community. This role also involves engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to foster cultural safety across Library spaces, services and collections. The Trainee will contribute to the planning and execution of programs such as Welcome Week and Exam Ready, while also supporting the logistical aspects of wider Library events. Duties include room bookings, managing registrations, technology support, coordinating catering, setting up / packing down spaces and maintaining accurate records. Additionally, the Trainee will assist with communications between the Library and its diverse clientele, including Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities.

This is an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the Library’s commitment to cultural inclusivity and community engagement. This role supports both Indigenous and non-Indigenous library users and staff, enhancing the Library’s mission to create welcoming and culturally safe spaces. The Trainee will gain hands-on experience in event coordination and community engagement while working in a supportive and dynamic environment. This traineeship is not available to people with tertiary qualifications and current university applicants may need to defer their studies to be eligible.
