The Trainee Woodwork Technician will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth and safe operation of the Woodwork department at the college, supporting both equipment functionality and practical classroom activities. Ideal for those passionate about woodworking, this role provides hands-on experience alongside educational commitments, enabling the Trainee to support facility maintenance through woodworking tasks, collaborate with teachers and technicians. This position offers valuable exposure to real-world woodworking skills within an educational setting.
Key Responsibilities: The Trainee Woodwork Technician will be responsible for setting up, operating, packing up classroom materials, preparing and distributing woodwork materials for projects, assisting with Fusion 360 software in practical classes and organising displays for exhibitions. They will also coordinate equipment quotes and repairs, maintain the woodwork studios, handle material orders and equipment stocktaking to ensure the studios are equipped for classes. Administrative duties include weekly organisation of storerooms, conducting audits, managing supplies, attending department meetings and coordinating professional learning sessions for staff. For Occupational Health & Safety, the Trainee will review and display safety documents in all work areas, manage hazardous materials and work closely with the Head of Department to uphold safety protocols.
The ideal candidate will possess a foundational understanding of woodworking principles and strong computer skills, including experience with Fusion 360 for 3D modelling and product simulation. Familiarity with spreadsheets and word processing software is essential. Compliance with the College’s Child Safety policies is mandatory and the Trainee must be dedicated to upholding the standards outlined in the Safeguarding Children and Young People Code of Conduct. National Training Wage from: $21,500, plus 11.5% Superannuation
