AFL NSW/ACT is responsible for the governance, administration, development and marketing of all aspects of Australian Football throughout the region. AFL NSW/ACT covers four predominant sub-regions, ACT, South Coast/Illawarra, Sydney Harbour, Greater Western Sydney and Northern NSW, encompassing 14 leagues and 260 clubs. AFL NSW/ACT’s development arm is responsible for the growth and development of Australian Football across the region.
This full-time traineeship is part of the AFL Bachar Houli Employment Program, designed to support young adults from Muslim backgrounds in gaining employment within AFL NSW/ACT. The successful applicant will work closely with Development Coordinators to promote and grow Australian Rules football in Greater Sydney, primarily through the delivery of AFL programs such as AFL Auskick, Schools and Alternate Formats. The role is community-focused and also supports multicultural and Indigenous programs to foster greater diversity in the AFL.
Key Responsibilities: The trainee will be responsible for delivering and leading various AFL programs at schools and community venues, ensuring the highest standards are met according to AFL guidelines. Additionally, they will mentor new casual staff, manage key program bookings in the local sub-region and engage with schools, teachers and stakeholders to expand AFL opportunities. The role includes supporting junior Auskick centers by aiding with recruitment, coaching, volunteers and promotion, as well as contributing to broader team projects.
This position is part of the Bachar Houli Employment Program and is employed through AFL SportsReady. To succeed in this role, you will need good communication, time management and organisational skills, along with a commitment to delivering high-quality programs. You should be comfortable working both independently and as part of a team. A current driver’s licence and a reliable vehicle are essential. The role requires a flexible schedule, with availability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
This position is best suited for someone who is of Islamic faith, culturally and/or linguistically diverse. People with tertiary qualifications need not apply. Current university applicants may have to defer their studies to be eligible for this traineeship.
National Training Wage from: $21,500, plus 11.5% Superannuation
