Bank Your Future With a Traineeship

Bank Your Future With a Traineeship

Sarah Clothier, an AFL SportsReady alumna, has achieved remarkable career growth as the Manager of ANZ Bank in Warwick, all thanks to her traineeship experience. Reflecting on her journey, Sarah emphasizes the pivotal role of her traineeship in shaping her career trajectory. Through the program, she gained qualifications and acquired essential skills and knowledge in banking, empowering her to climb the industry ladder.

Sarah’s traineeship in 2014 as a personal banker at ANZ, coupled with her studies for a Certificate III in Finance, solidified her passion for the field and provided hands-on learning experiences. Following her traineeship, Sarah secured a full-time position at the ANZ Warwick branch, eventually ascending to the role of Branch Manager.

She attributes her success to the support of AFL SportsReady’s Field Officer and educator. Underscoring the transformative opportunities traineeships offer young individuals to evolve from humble beginnings into influential leaders.

“There is no doubt that without my traineeship I would not be where I am today in my career,” said Sarah.

“Through my traineeship experience I became qualified in banking and was given the skills and knowledge I needed to work my way up in the industry,” she added.

Sarah did her traineeship in 2014, where she worked as a personal banker at ANZ. She was interested in the banking industry and saw it as a potential career pathway.

“I think that’s one of the key benefits of doing a traineeship. You gain real-work experience in the industry, so you can get a feel of what it is like and if you want to continue down this path.”

For Sarah, banking ticked all the right boxes and she decided this was the industry for her. As part of her traineeship, Sarah also studied a Certificate III in Finance, giving her the knowledge and training she needed to work across the entire financial services industry.

“The qualification was so important and so valuable. It taught me everything I needed to know and being able to study a qualification and put my learnings into practice in a working environment was crucial to my development.”

“The beauty of the traineeship is that it benefits young people who absorb knowledge and information better if they are applying it practically. It is a hands-on learning experience and what you learn, sticks.”

After graduating from her traineeship, Sarah was offered a full-time position at the ANZ Warwick branch. After 4 years she then took on the role of Branch Manager.

“It is quite surreal to have gone from trainee to Manager of this branch…”

“The traineeship program really helped me to progress in my career. You are given amazing support through a Field Officer who guides you through your training and an educator to help you achieve your qualification.

“It is an opportunity that allows young people to grow from humble beginnings into leaders, just like my journey.”
